Untamed - Laura Coviella

What does it take to score one perfect hour in the Mentawais?

Chasing swell in the Mentawai Islands is a constant battle. The winds are unpredictable, forecasts change in a heartbeat, and some days the ocean feels completely untamed.

That is the story behind UNTAMED, the new surf film from Canarian surfer Laura Coviella, made in collaboration with Oxbow. Shot around the Playgrounds area of the Mentawais, one of the world’s most iconic zones for barrels and powerful reef breaks, the film follows a month of chasing, waiting and watching the charts, until everything finally lines up for one hour of exceptional surfing.

Between deep barrels, remote tropical islands and quiet moments between sessions, UNTAMED shows the reality of a surf trip, where patience and adaptability matter as much as the waves themselves. It is also a portrait of what defines Laura’s surfing: commitment, technical skill and a fearless approach to heavy water.

One month of waiting. One hour that makes it all worth it.
